I enjoy teaching the piano to young people and find it extremely rewarding as I see them grow in confidence and enthusiasm for the instrument.
In the early stages I try to kindle an enthusiasm for the piano and make their lessons fun and enjoyable. These first piano lessons establish the basics of piano technique, posture, hand position and the ability to read music notation and provide the foundation for your child’s life-long adventure in piano playing.
The piano is often recommended for children who are interested in learning music for the first time as the piano is easier to master than other musical instruments. For example learning either a string or wind instrument can involve many hours of practice even to get the proper technique! Whereas children learning the piano can achieve, with the right amount of dedication the ability to play pleasing melodies reasonably quickly.
Learning to play the piano can increase your child’s personal confidence.
I believe you are never too young to start making music and as soon as your child is ready to focus for 30-minutes they are ready to begin private piano lessons.
Recent clients have provided the following references:
“Jonnie has been working with our 6-year-old daughter for nearly a year. Our daughter, who is normally quite soft-spoken, has blossomed into a confident and enthusiastic little pianist and we are very grateful to Jonnie for teaching her the art of self-expression through music.” Anna
“Jonnie has been teaching Beatrice piano for 3 years now and over time we have witnessed a steady increase in her enthusiasm for the piano! She passed her grade two in the autumn months and has recently started to play songs by listening to them on the radio!” Mary
